Chemical Peels - in depth

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are skin-resurfacing procedures involving the application of chemical substances to remove outer skin layers via exfoliation and peeling. This contained “injury” prompts the body’s normal wound healing process. The resulting regenerated skin is smoother, tighter and more even in color.

What are the benefits of a chemical peel?

When administered by a trained practitioner, chemical peels can be very effective in improving the texture and appearance of the skin. Chemical peels can be used to treat acne scars, “age spots”, mild wrinkling, discoloration, and early photodamage

Who is NOT a candidate for chemical peels?

  • Nursing or pregnant women

  • Accutane in the past 6 months

  • Skin conditions that might make the skin more sensitive (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis)

  • Naturally dark complexion or skin tone

  • History of abnormal skin scarring (i.e. keloids)

  • Recurrent or severe outbreaks of cold sores

What chemical peels do you use at NP Luxe Esthetics?

We use the SkinMedica line of skin peels (Illuminize, Vitalize, Rejuvenize). SkinMedica is a leader in the fields of medical grade skin care and aesthetic medicine. Each of SkinMedica’s chemical peels are aimed at improving complexion and diminishing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness.

How many and how often should peels be done for the most effective results?

Multiple treatments may be required to achieve desired results. The number of treatments is based on initial level of skin damage, and can vary from 3 to 6. The effect of the peel is cumulative and results are favorable when the peels are used in conjunction with SkinMedica daily product regimen. Peels can be repeated every 3-4 weeks
