Is Botox cosmetic safe?

  • Botox cosmetic has been shown to be safe for both short and long-term use

  • Only 36 cases of adverse effects associated with cosmetic use were reported to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration between 1989 and 2003. Thirteen of these cases may have had more to do with an underlying condition than with the drug itself.

When is the best time to start receiving Botox injections?

Botox cosmetic is approved for ages 18+. If you have static wrinkles (expression lines that remain on the face at rest) then Botox cosmetic can help. SkinMedica FAQs

What skin types would benefit from SkinMedica® skin care products?

There are SkinMedica® products that are formulated to be used on all skin types and most skin conditions including sensitive and post-procedure skin. We recommend you always ask your nurse practitioners which products and regimen will best address your skin type and concerns.

What is "photodamage"?

Photodamage to the skin is caused by exposure to harmful ultraviolet light. Photodamage can be acute, as in sunburn, or more commonly, chronic, due to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one’s life. Sun exposure is by far the most influential environmental factor affecting aging of the skin.

What are the causes of wrinkles?

Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. Wrinkles are also caused by movement of the skin resulting in creases over time.

What are the causes of age spots?

Age spots are also known as sun spots or solar lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight such as the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest and face. The pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.

How can I maintain the health of my skin?

Using sun protection and appropriate skin care products containing speciality ingredients is essential in maintaining healthy skin.

What role does my nurse practitioner play in my skin care regimen?

Just as your nurse practitioner plays an important role in your overall health, she also plays a key role in helping you maintain healthy skin. With any skin care regimen it’s important to consult with your dermatologist or skin care specialist. He or she can analyze your skin care routine, tell you what’s working and determine what you can do to further enhance the health and beauty of your skin.

Which product(s) should I use after having a procedure?

Always ask your nurse practitioner for the appropriate products to use after a procedure since the regimen may differ depending on the type of procedure received.

Are SkinMedica products safe to use while pregnant? Or while lactating?
