PRP Hair Restoration
The concept of using PRP (platelet rich plasma) is quickly becoming a well known and popular procedure in the medical aesthetics field. PRP hair restoration uses a vial of the patients own blood in order to extract the PRP (platelet rich plasma) and collagen rich growth factors to be used for stimulation of hair growth. PRP hair restoration has excellent results in both men and women.
What to expect
PRP hair restoration uses PRP (platelet rich plasma) and collagen rich growth factors to improve the quality, texture, and thickness of the hair. The process starts with a routine blood draw, or venipuncture, from your arm; just like getting blood drawn at your doctor’s office. The tube of blood is then placed in a centrifuge (a machine that spins the blood at a fast rate) in order to separate the red blood cells from the serum (white blood cells and platelets). Platelets contain growth factors which help stimulate collagen production and cell turnover. The PRP is then injected in to the scalp with a series of small injections over the area of thinning. The PRP (platelet rich plasma) delivers the body’s own growth factors to the hair follicles to promote growth and improve quality and thickness of the hair.
For optimal results patients will need a series of three treatments, spaced every 4-6 weeks. Results can usually be seen in about 4 months, the patient will start showing signs of recovering hair growth. Optimal results are achieved with a series of 6 treatments in the first year. After the initial series, treatments are spaced out to two-three treatments per year to continue to maintain results.
